The vet called me today to inform me that Ramses seems to feel better today. He is more alert and managed to eat although they had to help him. At least he is able to swallow without any problem. If nothing unexpected happens, Ramses will be allowed to return home tomorrow afternoon. He will have to have a series of check-ups in the clinic in the next weeks to see when the wires in his jaw can be removed. The prognosis regarding his eye is still uncertain. His body has to reabsorb the haematoma behind the eye before it’s possible to find out whether he has lost sight on this eye or not. In case his body should not be able to reabsorb the haematoma, the eye would have to be removed.
Update 06/23: Ramses is back home. He is alert and quite active at the moment but for the next couple of days he will mainly have to stay in one room for his own safety. His face is of course still swollen, his mouth is always slightly open and he also seems to breathe through the mouth, he has a visible third eyelid on his healthy eye and he has to wear a cone to stop him from scratching his face. For the next days he will have to receive antibiotics and painkillers twice per day and on Friday I will have to take him to the clinic for a checkup. We have not tried to feed him yet but at the clinic they said that today he has been able to eat on his own. The wires in his jaws will have to stay in place for at least 3 months and the eye will require regular checkups.
