My family decided to have Jordan the Golden Retriever euthanized today. Over the last couple of weeks, it had become clear that the arthritis he had in his back and his hind legs was now winning and the pain medicines were losing. He was getting weaker, was stumbling more, and often looked stressed and in pain. It was time to relieve his pain.
He died today with my family around him as we all wept. He was an extraordinary dog who loved everyone he met — especially if they had food to share. I can’t even begin to express how much we all miss him.
Jordan was also a retired Helping Paws service dog. He worked for 8 years for a woman with Cerebral Palsy. He was retired at age ten and he was just a little past age 15 when he died today. I’d be honored if you’d consider making a donation to Helping Paws in his memory. Visit www.helpingpaws.org.
I took this photo this afternoon, shortly before we took him to the vet.
