This is a photo of Freckles, our cat. We adopted her as an adult from a woman who shows and breeds champion short hair exotic cats; Freckles was retired from competition.
Freckles was as good a companion as you would care to have, always gentle and loving. What she wanted most of the time was simply to be wherever my wife or I were. She loved being petted and groomed, sometimes to a fault.
Late last year Freckles developed kidney trouble and began to slowly fail. This photo was taken In mid-January just a few hours before we took her to the vet to be put to sleep. I spent that day with her just hanging out and taking photos. My wife especially wanted a photo of Freckles resting in one of her favorite spots. This spot is the chair-and-a-half in our family room.
Those of you that have pets know how gut-wrenching it is to lose them. We are no exception. Freckles, who was named for her mottled coloring, is sorely missed.
